Development Planner/Building Surveyor (Multiple Positions)

About the positionsCouncil is currently recruiting for multiple Development Planner positions and a Building Surveyor, specifically three permanent / full time Development Planner positions, a fixed term / full time Development Planner and a permanent / full time Building Surveyor. All positions are full time hours being 35 hours per week, Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm (1 hour lunch break).   Development Planner positions 2 x Permanent / Full-time (S10956 & S10958)
  • Based at the Ulladulla Branch Office located at 14 Deering Street, Ulladulla and may be required to work from the Nowra Administration Centre at 36 Bridge Road, Nowra reporting to the Senior Planner – Anne McDonald.
1 x Permanent / Full-time (S10868)
  • Based at the Nowra Administration Centre at 36 Bridge Road, Nowra reporting to the Senior Development Planner – Justin Lamerton.
1 x Fixed term / Full-time (S11961)
  • Based at the Ulladulla Branch Office located at 14 Deering Street, Ulladulla and may be required to work from the Nowra Administration Centre at 36 Bridge Road, Nowra reporting to the Senior Planner – Anne McDonald.
  • 12-month fixed term position till 20 June 2023.
There may also be opportunities for other temporary Development Assessment Officer, Development Planner or Building Surveyor positions based at Nowra or Ulladulla, please call Peter or Justin to discuss further.Remuneration The Development Planner and Building Surveyor roles are grade range, therefore in accordance with qualifications, accreditation, experience and demonstrated skills, the prospective employee will be assessed (based on the capability framework attached to the job descriptions) either as Grade 9, 10 or 11 as per below:
  • Grade 9 salary range: $72,629 – $84,548
  • Grade 10 salary range: $80,215 – $92,139
  • Grade 11 salary range: $87,806 – $99,725
The advertised salary is based on the grade of the position, comprising of 4 steps within the range shown. The starting salary is at Step 1 within the grade. Progression through the salary steps shall be based upon the achievement of performance objectives relating to the position. Development PlannerDuties
  • Provide for the protection, promotion and improvement of the natural and built environment and public amenity and safety:
  • Providing professional advice, education, and guidance.
  • Administering and enforcing the Acts and Regulations under various legislation and Council policies.
  • Working cooperatively with other Council Groups, the whole community and state agencies to achieve improved land-use management, high quality built and natural environments and public amenity.
  • Coordinating, managing, assessing, and processing development applications which range up to the level of experience and qualifications required for the relevant grade in order to ensure achievement of the objectives of the Community Strategic Plan and customer service levels that will ensure the wellbeing of the whole community.
Skills & Experience
  • Grade 9 - Completion or near completion of recognised tertiary qualifications in a field such as Urban and Regional or Town Planning (or related tertiary qualifications).
  • Grade 10-11 refer to the capability framework attached to the job descriptions.
  • Eligibility for corporate membership of the Planning Institute of Australia.
  • Knowledge and understanding of relevant environmental planning legislation and ability to interpret legislation such as the Environmental Planning & Assessment Act 1979.
  • NSW WorkCover Construction Induction Certificate (White card).
Building SurveyorDuties
  • To assist in the administration of applicable Acts so as to achieve the best built environment, health, welfare, and well-being of the whole community and to ensure achievement of the objectives of Council’s Management Plan and Council’s levels of customer service.
        Skills & Experience
  • Grade 9 - Tertiary qualification or near completion of recognised tertiary qualifications in Building Surveying or equivalent as outlined by the Building Professionals Board to attain applicable accreditation (A4) as outlined in the job description and framework).
  • Grade 10-11 – Recognised Tertiary qualification in Building Surveying or equivalent as outlined by the Building Professionals Board to attain applicable accreditation (A3/A1/A2 as outlined in the job description and framework).
  • Applicable Building Surveyor Accreditation issued by the Building Professionals Board (as outline in the job description and framework).
