Grid Connection Engineer Graduate Program 2025

AI Job Summary

Great careers are built on connections. Start building yours here.

Grid connection engineers are tackling one of the most critical tasks in Australia’s clean energy transition: helping connect renewable projects to the grid. The Grid Connection Engineer Graduate Program is an industry-first initiative designed to give participants fast-tracked experience with multiple organisations involved in grid connection.

What is a grid connection engineer?

Being a grid connection engineer is an exciting, innovative career pathway, and one that is driving the energy transition.

Grid connection engineers are needed for all renewable energy technologies at scale. They usually hold degrees in electrical engineering and are required to be proficient in the use of dynamic medium- to long-term simulation models for complex systems. Ideally, engineers will have experience across a range of work settings in which grid connections play an essential role. They have excellent knowledge of the National Electricity Market and compliance requirements of the Australian Energy Market Operator (AEMO) or other network service providers. They are employed by developers, balance-of-plant providers, consultants and AEMO.

A graduate program designed to fast track experience

The demand for grid connection engineers within the clean energy sector exceeds supply, with job advertisements outnumbering applicants. This demand will continue to grow as we race toward our renewable energy targets.

To address this shortage, the Clean Energy Council and AEMO have come together to create a unique industry-wide graduate program, offering participants experiences and learning opportunities not available in other programs. By bringing together multiple employing organisations as hosts, graduates in this program will have the opportunity to gain invaluable experience and new skills as they rotate through multiple work settings, while also receiving additional job-ready training and networking opportunities.

About us

AEMO manage electricity and gas systems and markets across Australia, including the National Electricity Market, the Wholesale Electricity Market (WA) and the Victorian gas transmission network. They are one of the hosts and help manage the graduate program.

The Clean Energy Council is the peak body for the renewable energy and energy storage industry in Australia. They are responsible for promoting and managing the graduate program.

Participants will work with four host organisations in six-month placements. Hosts will be announced over the coming months.

About you

We are seeking applications from Engineering graduates from Electrical, Mechatronics, Mechanical, Renewable Energy or other related disciplines, who will graduate prior to February 2025 and have the right to work in Australia for the two-year duration of the program.

Participating Graduates will work with host organisations in Victoria and Queensland.

We believe diversity drives innovation and encourage individuals of all races, genders, ages, religions, identities, and experiences to apply.
