Located near West Wyalong in central New South Wales, Cowal is a residential site where we encourage our people to live nearby and enjoy the close-knit communities and lifestyles of the surrounding areas.

Flights or reimbursement of travel expenses are provided at the beginning and end of the program. Residential housing is provided and subsidized, and transport to site is arranged for you, and you will be fully equipped with all necessary Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) to ensure your safety and comfort on the job. Candidates who successfully complete the vacation program will be fast-tracked into our graduate program.

This is a 12-week residential program running from December to February, on a roster of 5 days on 2 days off and 4 days on 3 days off working a 8.5-hour day.

About the role

The Vacation Student – Mining Engineering is a developmental position designed to build technical capabilities within the Technical Services team through rotational assignments. The role provides hands-on experience in a mine setting. Each rotation is supervised by a relevant senior staff member, aligning responsibilities with the student's experience and learning goals.

Responsibilities include

• Assisting with underground drill and blast design preparation
• Supporting ventilation and ground support inspections
• Collecting and analysing production data from underground operations
• Updating mine plans and schedules under supervision
• Participating in shift handovers and safety briefings
• Monitoring equipment performance and reporting issues
• Collaborating with operators and engineers on production improvements

About you

The ideal candidate is currently enrolled in a Mining Engineering, Science (Mining), Engineering Science (Mining Engineering) or civil degree or similar. Ideally you will have some experience with relevant software and systems through studies or placements. You should demonstrate strong problem-solving skills and a ability to communicate effectively across verbal, written, numerical, and graphical formats. You will be able to uphold high work standards, build strong relationships with peers and leaders, and work independently to meet personal and team goals. A valid manual driver’s licence and willingness to live and work remotely are essential for this role.
