SCOPE 

The SCELSE-L’Oréal Joint Research Lab is responsible for conducting upstream research within the scope of the skin and scalp microbiome. The goal of the research team is to identify innovative concepts and raw materials for the development of novel cosmetic, dermatology, and consumer care products. Depending on the background and skillsets the successful candidate brings, the project can take one of two directions: (1) in-vitro functional dissection of skin/scalp microbiome or (2) development and implementation of AI-based image classification tool.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Conduct a scientific literature review
  • Design and conduct experiments, with mentorship guidance, within a defined project
  • Collect, record, and interpret data, and draw sound scientific conclusions based on analysed data
  • Become proficient in laboratory and/or microscopy, biofilm, and biochemical assays to characterize the interactions of skin microbes or
  • Become proficient in developing a computational method for image analysis
  • Communicate project results both in writing and orally to the research team

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE SHOULD:

  • Be working towards a bachelor’s degree in Biological Sciences (or any related field) or a bachelor’s degree in Computer Science with an interest in image analysis/computer vision algorithms
  • Enjoys hands-on experimentation and/or solving technical problems
  • Strong verbal communication, interpersonal and team skills
  • High level of self-motivation and willingness to learn
  • Experience with microscopy techniques and image analysis is an advantage
