About NAB

NAB

We’re NAB.

For almost 160 years, we’ve been helping our customers with their money.

Today, we have more than 30,000 people serving 9,000,000 customers at more than 900 locations in Australia, New Zealand and around the world.

As Australia’s largest business bank, we work with small, medium and large businesses. We’re there from the beginning to support them through every stage of the business lifecycle.

We fund some of the most important infrastructure in our communities – including schools, hospitals and roads. And we do it in a way that’s responsible, inclusive and innovative.

More than money.

We know that to be Australia and New Zealand’s most respected bank, we need to be good with money. And we need to be just as good with people, too.

NAB Graduate Program

NAB

GRADUATE PROGRAM BASICS

The 2021 NAB Graduate Program is tailored to suit your skills and knowledge. It involves two rotations across our business, over a 15 month period. Rotations are designed to give you broad experience, introducing you to all aspects of life at one of Australia’s largest and most successful financial institutions. You’ll work at the operational level as well as have the opportunity to work with senior level management.

When you apply for the NAB Graduate Program, you’ll be asked to select a program stream taking into consideration your desired location, the discipline you’ve studied and the business area you want to build your career in. You’ll have rotations within your ‘home’ stream ensuring exposure to core activities.

The 2021 Graduate Program commences in February 2021.

DURING THE PROGRAM

As part of the graduate program, we’ll provide:

  • rotations and experiences in genuine roles, doing real and meaningful work that contributes to NAB’s business priorities
  • learning and development opportunities tailored to your needs
  • a committed team to support you as you go, with supportive managers for each rotation
  • exposure to senior leaders
  • networking events to help you build connections
  • opportunities to take ownership of or get involved in projects, initiatives, committees and community work

AFTER THE PROGRAM

After the 15 months, if you successfully complete the graduate program, you’ll be offered a permanent role with us.

Equal Opportunity Programs (Gender Equality)

Equal opportunities programs diversity icon

NAB

Why is this important?

To set our business up for long-term success, we need a workforce that reflects the customers we serve and our communities. To help us get there, we need to provide our female employees with support and encouragement to reach their full potential.

What do we do?

Throughout our businesses, from entry level roles to our executives we are committed to every level having 40% - 60% of either gender represented by 2020. In 2017, the NAB Board approved new measurable objectives for achieving gender diversity over the next three years.

“Towards 2020: NAB’s road to gender equality” explains more about our 2020 commitment and outlines how we will get there.

In December 2016, we achieved the 2016 Workplace Gender Equality Agency Employer of Choice for Gender Equality citation. We are proud to achieve this recognition as a demonstration of our continued drive and commitment to achieving gender equality.

Preparing women to be the leaders of tomorrow

Hiring women has never been about 'making up the numbers'. It's been about finding the right people for the right roles. We have a range of targeted programs and practices that provide women with opportunities, such as NAB Board Ready, which prepares women for board positions in the future and Breakthrough – a suite of development programs designed to equip our female employees with the skills, knowledge and tools they need to transition to senior roles.

We’re focused on fairness

We are committed to fair and equitable remuneration for all employees that is consistent with our market and performance framework. We actively address barriers to equal pay between men and women. That’s why our gender pay gap continues to decrease and sits below the industry average. We’ve also extended our 12 weeks’ paid parental leave to eligible parents at NAB, regardless of gender.

We believe it’s important to recognise the interdependencies at play when it comes to equality. In 2013, we became the first major bank in the country to introduce a domestic violence support policy. We also know that that when women in business are visible it inspires change. We’ve signed a pledge to participant in more events for women. And as business leaders, we try to ensure that events we participate in have a gender balance.

Indigenous

NAB

Why is this important?

Employment is much more than simply receiving an income. Economic independence and stability, financial capability, career prospects and greater confidence come with having a real job. We leverage our strength as a bank and one of Australia’s largest employers, to provide work opportunities for Australians and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.

What do we do?

We continue to offer a range of initiatives including school based and adult traineeships, internships and general recruitment for Indigenous Australians. While the employment program opens doors and provides training and support, our Indigenous employees work hard to create their own success.

We’ve invested in growing the pipeline of Indigenous employment

We provide school based traineeships for students in Year 10-12 and adult traineeships for individuals interested in a career at NAB. During the traineeship, trainees complete a Certificate II or III in Business, receive on-the- job experience at our branches and head offices around the country; and receive mentoring from our employees and external partners.

We’ve provided internships to university students

Internships are for university students seeking a career in financial services. Internships are managed in partnership with CareerTrackers and are designed to build each student’s confidence, skills and abilities in the workforce as well as exposure to a corporate working environment.

We’re looking to open more doors

We are always seeking great candidates interested in joining NAB. If you’re interested in joining us, please email us - [email protected]

We’re improving cultural awareness across the business

We provide a range of opportunities for our people to lift their understanding and actively get involved through our cultural awareness initiatives. This includes cross cultural training, specialist experiences for our senior executives, employee secondments to the Kimberley region WA and skilled volunteering.

LGBTI Support

NAB

More room to be yourself.

We've always taken pride in being a company that supports people for who they who are, no matter what their sexual orientation or gender identity.

Our NAB Pride employee resource group provides a fantastic support network for our employees who identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender or intersex (LGBTI), and continues to raise awareness across the organisation. The feedback is that NAB Pride is a big part of the reason that more and more LGBTI+ employees are coming to work each day feeling comfortable in their own skin.

We also work with external partners like Pride in Diversity, the only not-for- profit workplace program in the country designed specifically for the LGBTI community. Pride in Diversity run the Australian Workplace Equality Index (AWEI), and this year, we were awarded a 'Silver Status'.

And we're just as committed to supporting the wider LGBTI community - advocating and supporting events including the 2018 Midsumma Festival in Melbourne, the Fair Day at Brisbane Pride and partnering with the AFL to create the NAB Challenge Pride match, which raised awareness and acceptance of LGBTI+ communities in sport.

Additionally, we partnered with Pride in Diversity, to host internal LGBTI Awareness Training Sessions across Australia to increase the awareness of workplace inclusion.

We want our LGBTI+ employees and customers to be proud of who they are, because we’re just as proud to stand alongside them.

Disability Programs

Disability programs diversity icon

NAB

Why is this important?

We know that to fulfil our vision of being Australia’s leading bank, trusted by customers for exceptional service, we need to be good with money and get the basics right. With more than 33,000 of our people helping more than 9 million customers with their banking needs, we need to be good with people too.

There are more than 4 million Australians living with disability1, and so it is important that we design our products and services with accessibility in mind. A culture of accessible products and services is central to great customer experiences and a positive working environment for our people.

What do we do?

We’re committed to providing exceptional service for customers – not only by getting the basics right, but also going above and beyond to develop trust. We do this by building genuine, lasting relationships, as well as innovative, world-class products and support.

The 2019 - 2020 Accessibility Action Plan is one of many ways we’re doing this. At its heart are actions to listen and respond to customers, and support our people by providing a great place to work.

To achieve this, we’ve focused on four key areas:

  • Inclusive and universal design when developing products and services.
  • Embedding an inclusive culture through the stories we tell and recognising our diverse workforce and community.
  • Listening to our customers and acting on feedback.
  • Increasing the disability confidence of our people to create an environment that anticipates, and seamlessly accommodates, diversity.

Central to everything is a commitment to create more of what matters to our customers, people and communities – and accessibility is an important part of this.

You can read more about this and our commitment to our people, customers and communities in the Plan below.

Cultural Diversity

Cultural diversity diversity icon

NAB

Everyone's welcome to work for us - regardless of their ethnicity, sexual orientation, gender, or any disabilities they might be living with.

But inclusion means more than opening our doors to people from all walks of life. It means encouraging those people to be the best they can be and it means making them feel valued - not only for the great work they do, but also for the qualities that make them unique.

We're always working to ensure this inclusive culture doesn't just exist, but that it allows our people to thrive - and that our differences are celebrated.

That's why we're providing better access and support for employees with disabilities, and ensuring our LGBTI employees aren't defined by their sexual orientation.

We also have programs in place for our African and Indigenous Australian employees, so that they can feel supported - and share their insights and ideas.

Diversity

Diversity diversity icon

NAB

Every day, thousands of people come to work for us. And each time they walk through the doors, we want them to know how valued they are.

That's why we're committed to continue building a workplace that's as diverse as it's dynamic. The qualities that make each of our people unique aren't just embraced - they're valued. Because we know that when you feel completely comfortable in your own skin, you can fully realise your potential.

This spirit of diversity and inclusion is more than just an idea or a goal. It's a huge part of who we are. You'll see it in the executive teams, right through to the local branches and the relationships our staff are building with our equally diverse customers.

So regardless of your gender, your age, or your background, there's room for you to realise your potential here. And importantly, there's room to be yourself.

You can access our Diversity and Inclusion Policy (PDF, 77KB).
