NAB

Why is this important?

Employment is much more than simply receiving an income. Economic independence and stability, financial capability, career prospects and greater confidence come with having a real job. We leverage our strength as a bank and one of Australia’s largest employers, to provide work opportunities for Australians and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.

What do we do?

We continue to offer a range of initiatives including school based and adult traineeships, internships and general recruitment for Indigenous Australians. While the employment program opens doors and provides training and support, our Indigenous employees work hard to create their own success.

We’ve invested in growing the pipeline of Indigenous employment

We provide school based traineeships for students in Year 10-12 and adult traineeships for individuals interested in a career at NAB. During the traineeship, trainees complete a Certificate II or III in Business, receive on-the- job experience at our branches and head offices around the country; and receive mentoring from our employees and external partners.

We’ve provided internships to university students

Internships are for university students seeking a career in financial services. Internships are managed in partnership with CareerTrackers and are designed to build each student’s confidence, skills and abilities in the workforce as well as exposure to a corporate working environment.

We’re looking to open more doors

We are always seeking great candidates interested in joining NAB. If you’re interested in joining us, please email us - [email protected]

We’re improving cultural awareness across the business

We provide a range of opportunities for our people to lift their understanding and actively get involved through our cultural awareness initiatives. This includes cross cultural training, specialist experiences for our senior executives, employee secondments to the Kimberley region WA and skilled volunteering.

LGBTQIA+ Support

LGBTIQ+ diversity icon

nab lgbtqia

More room to be yourself.

We've always taken pride in being a company that supports people for who they who are, no matter what their sexual orientation or gender identity.

Our NAB Pride employee resource group provides a fantastic support network for our employees who identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender or intersex (LGBTQIA+), and continues to raise awareness across the organisation. The feedback is that NAB Pride is a big part of the reason that more and more LGBTQIA+ employees are coming to work each day feeling comfortable in their own skin.

We also work with external partners like Pride in Diversity, the only not-for- profit workplace program in the country designed specifically for the LGBTQ community. Pride in Diversity run the Australian Workplace Equality Index (AWEI), and this year, we were awarded a 'Silver Status'.

We love getting out and about in the community. While the list is always growing, some of the key event’s that we’re proud to be a part of include International Transgender Day of Visibility, International Day Against Homophobia, Transphobia and Biphobia, Wear It Purple Day, Pride Month Australia, World Aids Day. We’ve also been the proud principal partner of Midsumma Festival in Melbourne since 2013 and partnered with the AFL to create the NAB Challenge Pride match, which raised awareness and acceptance of LGBTQIA+ communities in sport.

Additionally, we partnered with Pride in Diversity, to host internal LGBTQIA+ Awareness Training Sessions across Australia to increase the awareness of workplace inclusion.

We want our LGBTQIA+ employees and customers to be proud of who they are, because we’re just as proud to stand alongside them.

Disability Programs

Disability diversity icon

Why is this important?

We know that to fulfil our vision of being Australia’s leading bank, trusted by customers for exceptional service, we need to be good with money and get the basics right. With more than 33,000 of our people helping more than 9 million customers with their banking needs, we need to be good with people too.

There are more than 4 million Australians living with disability1, and so it is important that we design our products and services with accessibility in mind. A culture of accessible products and services is central to great customer experiences and a positive working environment for our people.

What do we do?

We’re committed to providing exceptional service for customers – not only by getting the basics right, but also going above and beyond to develop trust. We do this by building genuine, lasting relationships, as well as innovative, world-class products and support.

The 2019 - 2020 Accessibility Action Plan is one of many ways we’re doing this. At its heart are actions to listen and respond to customers, and support our people by providing a great place to work.

To achieve this, we’ve focused on four key areas:

  • Inclusive and universal design when developing products and services.
  • Embedding an inclusive culture through the stories we tell and recognising our diverse workforce and community.
  • Listening to our customers and acting on feedback.
  • Increasing the disability confidence of our people to create an environment that anticipates, and seamlessly accommodates, diversity.

Central to everything is a commitment to create more of what matters to our customers, people and communities – and accessibility is an important part of this.

You can read more about this and our commitment to our people, customers and communities in the Plan below.

Cultural Diversity

Cultural Diversity diversity icon

Everyone's welcome to work for us - regardless of their ethnicity, sexual orientation, gender, or any disabilities they might be living with.

But inclusion means more than opening our doors to people from all walks of life. It means encouraging those people to be the best they can be and it means making them feel valued - not only for the great work they do, but also for the qualities that make them unique.

We're always working to ensure this inclusive culture doesn't just exist, but that it allows our people to thrive - and that our differences are celebrated.

That's why we're providing better access and support for employees with disabilities, and ensuring our LGBTI employees aren't defined by their sexual orientation.

Diversity

Diversity and Inclusion diversity icon

Every day, thousands of people come to work for us. And each time they walk through the doors, we want them to know how valued they are.

That's why we're committed to continue building a workplace that's as diverse as it's dynamic. The qualities that make each of our people unique aren't just embraced - they're valued. Because we know that when you feel completely comfortable in your own skin, you can fully realise your potential.

This spirit of diversity and inclusion is more than just an idea or a goal. It's a huge part of who we are. You'll see it in the executive teams, right through to the local branches and the relationships our staff are building with our equally diverse customers.

So regardless of your gender, your age, or your background, there's room for you to realise your potential here. And importantly, there's room to be yourself.
