As an Intern at nbn, it’s not just about observing, you’ll be actively working on real projects that make a genuine impact. Over 12 exciting weeks, you’ll be embedded in a business stream of your choice, contributing to meaningful work that helps connect communities across Australia.

About the Computer Science Internship 

This internship is designed for students who are passionate about technology, software, and solving complex technical problems. You’ll gain hands-on experience working across teams that design, build, secure, and optimise the technology platforms and network systems that keep millions of Australians connected. 

You’ll contribute to meaningful projects involving software development, automation, artificial intelligence, network technologies, enterprise systems, and data-driven solutions while working alongside experienced engineers and technology specialists. 

Internship opportunities may be available across Melbourne and Sydney, depending on team requirements. 

Teams you could join 

Systems Engineering and Operations – Design and deliver the technology solutions that power nbn’s ability to build, connect, fix, operate, and enhance services for our customers. Their systems support phone and internet providers, industry partners, and internal teams every day while ensuring enterprise technology remains secure, reliable, and available. 

Networks – Deliver the nbn network technology innovation roadmap and network solutions. The team develops network architectures, automation capabilities, AI-driven technologies, network management systems, and innovative solutions that shape the future of Australia’s broadband network. 

Security Group - Protect nbn’s critical infrastructure by combining cyber security, automation, engineering, intelligence, governance, and risk management. Students may have the opportunity to contribute to projects involving security automation, AI solutions, and software engineering that strengthen cyber resilience. 

What we look for in a Computer Science intern 

We’re looking for motivated, analytical thinkers who enjoy solving complex technical problems and applying technology to real-world challenges. You should have strong problem-solving skills, enjoy learning new programming languages and technologies, and be excited by opportunities to develop innovative solutions. 

You’ll thrive working collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams, communicate technical concepts clearly, and demonstrate curiosity, creativity, and a passion for continuous learning. 

The ideal candidate will be currently studying for a degree in Computer Science. 

To be eligible for the program, you must meet the below eligibility criteria: 

• You are a Citizen of Australia / New Zealand, or an Australian permanent resident; and  
• You are available to commence full-time work from (to be confirmed Nov-Feb)
