About the Cyber Security Internship
This internship is designed for students who want to help protect one of Australia’s largest pieces of critical digital infrastructure. You’ll have the opportunity to contribute to meaningful work across teams responsible for securing the nbn network, strengthening cyber resilience, and developing innovative solutions that help safeguard millions of Australians every day.
Working alongside experienced professionals, you’ll gain exposure to cyber security engineering, automation, threat detection, governance, risk management and network security while developing practical skills that will support your future career in cyber security.
Internship opportunities may be available in Melbourne and Sydney, depending on team requirements.
Teams you could join
Security Group - Protect Australia’s critical digital infrastructure by combining cyber security, intelligence, governance, risk management, and automation. Data science plays an important role in analysing security trends, identifying threats, supporting AI-driven automation, and strengthening cyber resilience across the organisation.
Networks - Responsible for delivering the nbn® network technology innovation roadmap and network solutions, ensuring efficient and cost-effective network deployment. The team uses network modelling, forecasting, automation, and data-driven insights to optimise network performance, improve customer outcomes, and shape the future evolution of Australia’s broadband network.
Systems Engineering and Operations - Design and deliver the technology solutions that power nbn’s ability to build, connect, fix, operate, and enhance services for our customers. Their systems generate valuable operational data that supports performance monitoring, business intelligence, automation, and continuous improvement across the organisation.
What we look for in a Cyber Security Intern
We’re looking for motivated, curious thinkers who enjoy solving complex problems and have a genuine interest in protecting technology and critical infrastructure. You should enjoy analysing information, learning new technologies, and working collaboratively to solve security challenges.
You’ll be eager to learn and grow in a dynamic environment, with an interest in cyber security, automation, AI or emerging technologies. Strong communication skills, analytical thinking, and the ability to explain technical concepts clearly will help you succeed.
To be eligible for the program, you must meet the below eligibility criteria:
- You are a Citizen of Australia / New Zealand, or an Australian permanent resident; and
You are in your penultimate year of university; and
- You are available to commence full-time work from (to be confirmed Nov-Feb)
