About the Engineering Internship 

This internship is designed for students who want to apply their engineering skills to projects that help build, operate, maintain, and evolve one of Australia’s largest pieces of critical infrastructure. You’ll gain hands-on experience across teams responsible for delivering innovative engineering solutions that keep millions of Australians connected every day. 

Working alongside experienced engineers and technical specialists, you’ll contribute to meaningful projects spanning network infrastructure, operational technologies, engineering systems, automation, service delivery, and continuous improvement. You’ll develop practical skills while experiencing the scale and complexity of Australia’s national broadband network. 

Internship opportunities may be available across Adelaide, Brisbane, Hobart, Melbourne, Sydney, and Perth, depending on team requirements. 

Teams you could join 

Field Services - They plays a vital role in keeping Australia connected. They ensure the reliable delivery, maintenance, and assurance of network services through a blend of internal expertise and trusted delivery partners. The team focuses on safety, quality, operational excellence, and ensuring broadband services remain reliable, fast, resilient, and secure. 

Networks- Responsible for delivering the nbn® network technology innovation roadmap and network solutions, ensuring efficient and cost-effective network deployment. The team uses network modelling, forecasting, automation, and data-driven insights to optimise network performance, improve customer outcomes, and shape the future evolution of Australia’s broadband network. 

Systems Engineering and Operations - Design and deliver the technology solutions that power nbn’s ability to build, connect, fix, operate, and enhance services for our customers. Their systems generate valuable operational data that supports performance monitoring, business intelligence, automation, and continuous improvement across the organisation. 

Security Group- Protect Australia’s critical digital infrastructure by combining cyber security, intelligence, governance, risk management, and automation. Data science plays an important role in analysing security trends, identifying threats, supporting AI-driven automation, and strengthening cyber resilience across the organisation. 

What we look for in a Engineering Intern 

We’re looking for motivated, curious thinkers who enjoy solving complex engineering problems and want to see their work make a real-world impact. You should enjoy analysing challenges, applying engineering principles, collaborating with multidisciplinary teams, and developing practical solutions. 

You’ll be eager to learn and grow in a dynamic environment, communicate technical concepts clearly, and have a genuine passion for innovation, technology, and continuous improvement. 

To be eligible for the program, you must meet the below eligibility criteria: 

  • You are a Citizen of Australia / New Zealand, or an Australian permanent resident; and  
  • You are in your penultimate year of university; and 
  • You are available to commence full-time work from (to be confirmed Nov-Feb)
