About the Software Engineering Internship
This internship is designed for students who want to build software that supports one of Australia’s largest technology environments. You’ll gain hands-on experience developing, testing, and improving applications, automation solutions, and enterprise platforms that enable nbn to build, connect, fix, operate, and enhance services for millions of Australians.
Working alongside experienced engineers, you’ll contribute to real software projects while learning modern development practices, automation techniques, system integration, and agile ways of working.
Internship opportunities may be available across Melbourne and Sydney, depending on team requirements.
Teams you could join
Systems Engineering and Operations- Design and deliver the technology solutions that power nbn’s ability to build, connect, fix, operate, and enhance services for our customers. Their systems support phone and internet providers, industry partners, and internal teams every day while delivering secure, scalable, and reliable software solutions.
Networks - Deliver the nbn network technology innovation roadmap and network solutions. The team develops network automation capabilities, software platforms, management systems, and innovative technologies that improve network performance and customer experience.
Security Group - Develop automation and engineering solutions that strengthen cyber resilience across nbn. The team builds software, AI-enabled capabilities, and automation tools that improve security operations, streamline processes, and help protect Australia’s critical infrastructure.
What we look for in a Software Engineering intern
We’re looking for motivated students who enjoy designing and building software to solve real-world problems. You should have strong analytical and problem-solving skills, enjoy coding, and be excited by opportunities to develop scalable, high-quality technology solutions.
You’ll work well in collaborative teams, communicate technical ideas clearly, and demonstrate curiosity, creativity, and a commitment to continuous learning. Experience with programming languages such as Java or Python will be highly regarded.
To be eligible for the program, you must meet the below eligibility criteria:
- You are a Citizen of Australia / New Zealand, or an Australian permanent resident; and
- You are in your penultimate year of university; and
- You are available to commence full-time work from (to be confirmed Nov-Feb)
