About the Telecommunications Engineering Internship 

This internship is designed for students who want to help build, operate and evolve one of the world’s largest broadband networks. You’ll gain hands-on experience supporting the technologies, infrastructure, and engineering solutions that enable millions of Australians to connect every day. 

You’ll have the opportunity to contribute to meaningful projects across network planning, telecommunications infrastructure, service delivery, operational technologies, and emerging broadband solutions while working alongside experienced engineers and technical specialists. 

Internship opportunities may be available across Adelaide, Brisbane, Hobart, Melbourne, Sydney, and Perth, depending on team requirements. 

Teams you could join 

Field Services- They play a vital role in keeping Australia connected. They ensure smooth delivery, maintenance, and assurance of network services through a blend of internal expertise and trusted delivery partners. Field Services is also responsible for ensuring broadband services are reliable, fast, resilient, and secure while driving continuous improvement across network operations. 

Networks - Delivering the nbn® network technology innovation roadmap and network solutions, ensuring efficient and cost-effective network deployment. The team designs solution architectures for wireline access, core networks, network security, and network management systems while driving automation, innovation, and the future evolution of Australia’s telecommunications network. 

Systems Engineering and Operations - Design and deliver the technology solutions that power nbn’s ability to build, connect, fix, operate, and enhance services for our customers. Their systems support phone and internet providers, industry partners, and internal teams while enabling efficient delivery and operation of the nbn network. 

What we look for in a Telecommunications Engineering intern 

We’re looking for motivated, curious thinkers who enjoy solving complex engineering problems and want to make a real-world impact. You should have a strong interest in telecommunications technologies, broadband infrastructure, network engineering, and technical innovation. 

You’ll enjoy collaborating with multidisciplinary teams, applying analytical thinking to solve practical challenges, and communicating technical concepts clearly to a range of audiences. You’ll be eager to learn, embrace new technologies, and build a career in telecommunications engineering. 

To be eligible for the program, you must meet the below eligibility criteria: 

  • You are a Citizen of Australia / New Zealand, or an Australian permanent resident; and  
  • You are in your penultimate year of university; and 
  • You are available to commence full-time work from (to be confirmed Nov-Feb)
