In every single risk I take, every relationship I develop and every activity I enjoy, my goal is always to improve and strive to be the best version of myself. When asked to describe myself, two things will always come to mind: music and sport. Whether I’m jamming on my saxophone or enjoying the poetic rhythms of hip hop, music allows me to unleash my creative side and relax in my down time. Whether it’s shooting hoops with my mates or cheering on my favourite football team, sport allows me to strive for team success in competitive environments.

There are thousands of different definitions of leadership and what it means to be a leader, which does make it hard to know exactly what to aim for if one is trying to become an effective leader. A definition that I keep close is “if your actions inspire others to dream more, learn more, do more and become more, you are a leader”. This quote by John Quincy Adams I believe encapsulates the essence of what we see in some of the greatest leaders of today and is something I am trying to model my actions from.

I’m also passionate about the pursuit of discovering and learning new cultures so I am also undertaking a minor in Korean Studies. Outside of the office and university, you’ll probably catch me at a dance studio or brushing up on my language skills for that next adventure!

Since then, I’ve been blessed with countless amazing opportunities within in this country and beyond, including a short stint studying in New York.I believe foolhardily in the power of creativity and passion (albeit with a chaser of logic); I wrote a poem for my selective test, freestyle rapped my way into a scholarship, and now have chosen this as my biography. The world is changing in rapid, unexpected and exciting ways- and I want to drive that."

But it's through taking leaps of faith that: I’ve moved countries, embraced various cultures and found people who're there for me. I’ve pushed myself and applied to PsychSoc, UNSW Heroes, and research assistance to give back to my community. With each jump, there’s a rush of adrenaline as I reach new heights. And every day I’ll jump higher until one day, high enough to reach my goals that lie among the stars above.

You have to enjoy the process to enjoy the long-term game. I'm just an ordinary person who dreams of creating something that will have an impact on the world. But before changing the world, I need to change myself first. I'm not the person when you meet the first time and say that I will make it in life. But I'm improving myself by acquiring new skills each year. I set goals to become a better version of myself. Why? Because I want to move forward while enjoying the process of learning to be a better human.

I think the ability for us to learn is what gives us the ability to overcome all challenges and problems presented to us. I believe our resilience is what gives us the ability to learn from our mistakes and adapt new strategies to solve the wider complications we may face in both our academic and industrial lives. In my own personal experience at the Australian Institute of Nuclear Science and Engineering (AINSE) and the Australian Nuclear Science and Technology Organisation (ANSTO) I believe that diverse teams, perspectives and skill-sets I was surrounded by are what enabled us to overcome many … read more

An important leadership trait is embracing opportunity. Having been fortunate enough to be able to pursue tertiary education I embraced the opportunity to not only further my studies, but also to learn from those around me and to be conscious of team diversity and what makes each person special. This led me to become the Treasurer for the ‘UWA Women in Business' and to volunteer in disadvantaged schools where I was able to support those less privileged than myself. I learned so much during these experiences and found that working towards something bigger than myself is comparable to nothing else.
