AI Job Summary

Be Part of Reimaging Energy

At bp, we have one thing on our mind – the energy of tomorrow. We’re helping the world get to net zero with the ambition of being a net zero company by 2050 and our early careers hires are integral to achieving this. As future leaders and technical experts, we need fresh thinking, curiosity, and a solution focus mindset to reimagine energy. Now this is the part where you come in!

About the Programme

Designed for Penultimate Year Engineering Students graduating by January 2025, our 12-week Engineering Summer Internship Programmes in Civil, Process and Electrical Engineering commences in November 2023 and will be based out of our Perth 240 Office and Kwinana Energy Hub (successful applicants may be required to work across both locations) sites. It is the perfect opportunity for you to immerse yourself in bp and gain invaluable insight as to what it will be like on our Graduate Programme.

About the team

bp is transitioning its former refinery site (located in the Kwinana Industrial Area) into an integrated energy hub. Subject to internal and Government approvals, the new hub will produce and supply fuel and energy products, including those that support our net zero ambitions. Renewable fuel production is an important part of this transition as it provides a reduced carbon fuel source for hard-to-abate sectors, including heavy industry, aviation, mining and transport. In Production & Operations, you can help support this transition both in the design of new facilities and in their operation. As part of the team, you’ll apply leading-edge technology and an agile mindset as we transform the way deliver energy for the future. You will apply your distinctive capabilities, to adapt and enable us to solve one of the greatest engineering challenges of our time, developing new skills in a rapidly changing environment within the operational heart of bp.

As a bp Engineering Intern, you’ll gain insight into the real world and you’ll execute and deliver projects within a team environment which will ultimately contribute to the achievement of bp’s reimagined strategy. Our internships will be in a range of different teams across Civil, Process and Electrical Engineering disciplines within our Production & Operations entity. You’ll experience on-the- job learning along with curated development training to suit your role.

Electrical Engineering: Electrical power is a fundamental requirement for all of bp’s businesses. Electrical systems provide light, heat, energy and power for rotating equipment providing the motive power to move products to the marketplace and the power for all related control systems. For new plants, such as renewable wind and solar facilities, along with onshore and offshore hydrocarbon process plants, as an electrical engineer at bp, you will model, design all the electrical systems and equipment. Covering power generator through to end-consumers, your hard work will ensure power is produced and utilised in the most efficient and cost-effective way.

Process & Process Safety Engineering (P&PSE) is at the heart of the energy industry, supporting oil and gas production, processing, conversion to create fuels and chemicals, and serving the energy transition in areas such as hydrogen, carbon capture, and green fuels. P&PSE is involved throughout the lifecycle of major energy projects, from establishing the business case and concept for a new development, through optimisation, design, engineering, construction, commissioning, and operations. We also support developing the innovations that will ensure our future success. And most importantly, we must understand and mitigate the process safety risks arising from our operations.

Civil Engineering: Civil Engineering harness the forces of nature to build and operate technology for the benefit of humanity. bp has growing interests in low carbon energy production infrastructure and our civil and structural engineers design, build and manage the new facilities and in their operation. They work on projects that range from local scale to projects of international significance. These facilities are essential to the production and delivery of energy from its natural state to the market and into the society.
