CSIRO Agriculture and Food (A&F) is Australia’s most significant science investment for its key primary production activities including cropping, meat and livestock, aquaculture, horticulture, food safety and processing, and value-adding. CSIRO’s Company Creation team is part of the A&F Business Unit and brings together the founders (science, investor, entrepreneur and industry) required to build companies that can take science and technology innovation to market at pace and solve big global challenges. Company Creation takes the Venture Science Model approach to deliver new venture outcomes that disrupt markets, create change, and create impact.

The Company Creation Project Manager will provide high level input into the management of the team’s projects and key internal and external relationships.  The projects represent a pipeline of opportunities including stages of ideation, market validation, proto-venture and company formation.  You will work closely with CSIRO researchers, internal and external stakeholders, and key support functions (Business Development, Finance, Legal, Commercialisation). You will help monitor and ensure delivery of milestones for the pipeline opportunities and be responsible for the collection, storage, and reporting of key data and files.

Your duties will include:

  • Working closely with others in the Company Creation team, manage the coordination and planning of Company Creation project deliverables and the scheduling and completion of Company Creation activities.
  • Manage project scope, budget, scheduling, and stakeholder expectations with appropriately mitigated risks. Manage escalated risks in collaboration with the team to within agreed tolerances and escalate and report any project risks in a timely manner. Allocate and direct tasks where appropriate, using agile methodologies. Recognise and address inefficiencies and continuously improve business processes.
  • Prepare project milestone reports, presentations, analyses, budgets, and briefings with stakeholders. Coordinate responses to information requests and reporting requirements.
  • Work with Company Creation leadership and pipeline teams to ensure milestone delivery.
  • Provide high level management of Company Creation’s key external relationships by being the internal and external conduit for Company Creation projects and activities.
  • Assist the Company Creation team in seeking out and facilitating connections with other areas across CSIRO as required.
  • Analyse business data to inform strategic decisions, respond to issues and trends, and maintain reports on key metrics.
  • Contribute to strategic decision-making and identify strategic and operational opportunities. 

Location:  Brisbane preferred. Other locations may be considered

Salary:  AU$105k – AU$114k plus up to 15.4% superannuation

To be considered you will need:

  1. Relevant project management qualifications and/or demonstrated experience in project management in a research organisation.
  2. Experience in successful project management, including planning, engagement, monitoring, effectively closing and reporting on projects to meet or exceed specified outcomes and timeframes.
  3. Highly developed negotiation skills enabling solid relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  4. Ability to coordinate multiple tasks within agreed priorities, timeframes and accountabilities.
  5. Strong problem-solving skills with a proven ability to identify issues and develop effective solutions using abstract and creative thinking.
  6. Highly developed interpersonal skills and a collaborative working style.
  7. A high degree of initiative and the ability to perform in dynamic environments.
