 Graduate Materials Specialist – Concrete/Aggregates

Based at our laboratory facility in Hobart, Tasmania. This role reports to the Southern Regional Technical Manager.

We are looking for a candidate to provide specialist concrete and quarry technical advice to internal and external customers, ensuring that the best solution is offered for customer applications. You will be supported by a collaborative and consultative Team enabling your ongoing development. Being solutions focused, we are looking for someone with materials skills who can offer up the best solution whilst developing relationships with our sales & production teams and customers, so we offer a value package to the market that is hard to beat.

Key Aspects:

  • Provide a high level of competent technical services to internal and external customers by assessing requirements and developing practical solutions. This will be done, at least initially, in conjunction with other team members so being a team player is important.
  • Proactively develop and maintain an effective working relationship with relevant external customers, as well as with Plant Managers, Territory Sales Managers, Laboratory Supervisor, and the Technical Service Team.
  • Continually look for and implement process improvements in all systems and processes.
  • Ensure internal and external customers are continually informed of data and trends in quality.
  • Push the limits in what can be achieved with sustainability improvements, particularly with lowering the levels of embodied carbon as well as supporting the circular economy.
  • Provide timely information to customers whenever product/process changes occur.
  • Address product performance issues and work with customers to improve their processes wherever possible.
  • Monitor raw material performance and consistency and report any non-conformances.
  • Work with production personnel to ensure that production controls and standards are enforced and compliance with production and delivery processes is achieved.
  • Contribute as a leader towards encouragement of safe practices at every opportunity.
  • Manage all aspects within the technical area of responsibility to ensure quality and consistency of products.

The Ideal Candidate will have:

  • A degree or diploma in any STEM disciplines, or the equivalent industry experience.
  • Knowledge of construction techniques around the use of concrete would be an advantage.
  • Experience within Concrete Operations, including plant processes, batching sequences, delivery processes would be well regarded.
  • Statistical analysis experience.
