Let’s talk about this role

Your new role as the Actuarial Analyst, will see you gain exposure and provide support to the Actuarial team across a wide range of actuarial modelling and advice provided to the nib Group. 

You will perform analysis to assist in the assumptions for outstanding claims liability and future claims liability, build and maintain pricing models and communicate the results back to a variety of internal stakeholders.

On an average day as an Actuarial Analyst, you may be:

  • Building and designing models to forecast and monitor profitability and performance
  • Support the monthly valuation of outstanding claims liabilities
  • Support the determination of future claims liability at half year and full year and interim periods and assist with preparation of inputs to financial statements
  • Preparing reports, analysis and commentary on industry trends and regulatory changes
  • Providing support to new business ventures, business cases and M&A activity
  • Partnering with teams across the organisation for pricing new products and costing product changes 

Let’s talk about you

The successful candidate for this position will have completed an undergraduate or post graduate degree in Actuarial studies, Mathematics, or Statistics by the end of 2023. We’re open to a commencement date of early 2024, meaning you will have completed you’re your studies by commencement of this role.

With a desire and curiosity to learn and grow into this role, you consider yourself a self-motivated individual with strong problem-solving skills and a high attention to detail. 
 
Furthermore, you will also need:  

  • Financial modelling and Microsoft Excel skills
  • Experience or exposure to coding in SQL, R or Python
  • Be studying towards Associate or Fellowship qualification of the IAA or equivalent actuarial body
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • A passion for innovation and continuous development of our internal modelling methodologies, including increasing the adoption of machine learning techniques
  • Ability to work autonomously and as part of a team to solve key business problems
  • Passion for enabling timely decision making based on data driven insights
