About the team

The Business Development team supports Wesfarmers’ objectives through its activities across M&A origination and execution, corporate planning and high-value strategic projects across the Wesfarmers Group. 

The team provides strategic and investment research, analysis and recommendations to senior executives and the Board. It is an integral part of the financial, strategic and commercial decision-making process for the Wesfarmers’ Group and its business divisions.

The team has a long track record of developing future leaders within the Wesfarmers Group including the current Group Managing Director and Chief Financial Officer. Team members at all levels have the opportunity to consider roles in Wesfarmers’ divisions from short term secondments to permanent positions.

Opportunity to join the team as a Graduate Analyst 

Business Development graduate analysts apply and develop their skills on a diverse range of investment and strategic projects, including mergers, acquisitions, divestments, high-value strategic projects, capital structure considerations and major capital investments. You will be encouraged to contribute to strategic thinking and provide in-depth research and analysis.

We place an emphasis on learning through working on live projects with experienced team members and provide relevant professional development throughout your Business Development career. 

The Graduate Analyst experience within our Business Development team is more fluid than many larger Graduate Programs, offering accelerated applied learning in a high-performing team that focuses on developing talent. Successful applicants can expect to work closely with senior team members and executives on the evaluation of major investment decisions from their first weeks in the team.

  • a high level of motivation to analyse and understand complex investment and strategic issues
  • excellent academic results in your chosen discipline (weighted average mark of 70% or higher), with double degree or postgraduate qualification preferable

  • the ability to write clearly and speak articulately
  • strong analytical, problem-solving and reasoning skills
  • outstanding initiative and determination to persist through challenges
